The principal cause of heat loss in swimming pools is through evaporation and if the temperature of the pool is to be maximized by installing a heater then steps must also be taken to reduce heat loss. This can be achieved by fitting an impermeable floating cover and owners who want to heat their pools are strongly recommended to fit one.

There are various types of heater available:

                                              

Solar Heater

These use the principle of pumping water through a collector, which absorbs heat from the sun.

Sun command's SG Solar panels are designed specially for pool heating applications and are fully compatible with all filtration systems including the Salt Water pools (pools using chlorinators) as they are constructed from Polypropylene material which are fully stabilized for outdoor use, resistant to Ultra Violet conditions. Solar panels collect free energy available from the sun. These are mounted on a roof/deck and clean filtered water is passed through the panels during the daytime by means of the pool pump. The water passing through the panels collects the irradiated heat from the sun and is returned to the pool as warm water and through a continuous process the pool water temperature rises.

Sizing of the solar collectors is based on the pool volume to be heated. The bigger the volume the more the number of panels required. As a general guide 1 panel should heat at least 10m3 of the pool water and on average the temperature rise will be in the region of 80C above normal pool temperature.

Heater Pumps

These work by the principle of a reversed refrigeration circuit, drawing the solar heat out of the atmosphere and discharging it into the pool water through a heat exchanger thus offer the most economical solution to pool heating requirements with an estimated 3 years equipment pay off.

The heat pump is a compact system with the plumbing connections and electrics in place. Heat pumps are all season thus the pool is available for use all year round.
